About me

Denise Shirra, Dip Nutr CNM, mBANT, mCNHC.

My journey into nutrition began when I started to suffer from bowel issues and extreme lower back pain in my late 20s.  Suspecting this was caused by a previous weight loss plan which I had followed for several years, I sought help from my GP.  The advice I received consisted of a prescription for a strong laxative treatment and I was advised to return for more when required.  Desperate for relief I faithfully took the prescription without question, hopeful of a cure to my problems.  After a year, with no real improvement, I returned to my GP determined to find the root cause and an alternative solution.  Questioning my GP how I could help myself, possibly through dietary and lifestyle changes, I was dismayed to be informed that I should expect to take these sachets for life!  This was neither what I had expected nor what I wanted to hear.

Determined to take responsibility for my own treatment, I began to educate myself on food and the impact this could have on my health.  In no time I was pain-free and saw an improvement in my bowel health.  These were just a few of the rewards for my new food and lifestyle choices.  Learning to listen to my body and understanding its response to food enabled me to begin to repair the damage done over many years.

Having experienced these amazing results, I developed a passion for healthy food and this drove me to further my knowledge of nutrition, enrolling with The College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM).  I undertook a three-year diploma in naturopathic nutrition, graduating in nutritional therapy.   Fully qualified (Dip Nutr CNM), affiliated and insured, I am a member of BANT (The British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy) and registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).         ICO registered –  ZA293112
